Motorcycle Tires from Bridgestone

By Glen Palick

Bridgestone is the big company with the big name in motorcycle tires. Bikers love them for their performance and handling. Whether you have a cruiser, touring or sport bike, theres a Bridgestone tire for you somewhere. They manufacture motorcycle tires for all terrains and conditions; on road, off road and racing. There is an exhaustive range to choose from.

Bridgestone has a long and enviable history and an excellent reputation. The company motto is serving society with products of superior quality. They were founded in Japan by Shojiro Ishibashi who originally came up with a way to mass market the Tabi, a traditional rubber-soled shoe. After sorting out the nations feet he then went on to tires. I guess theres a link in there somewhere. Initially the majority of the companys income came from producing tires for rival motorcycle manufacturers such as Yamaha and Suzuki.

Bridgestone is constantly making fresh inroads into the technological landscape, passing on the innovations of the racing track to the road. One of the latest motorcycle tires that the company is making a big noise about is the Battlax BT-021. Its luxury sports tire that the company claims has high stability on highways and winding roads and a firm grip in both wet and dry conditions. Its also the first time the company is utilizing a new type of tire construction called MSB (Mono Spiral Belt) to give better stability and shock absorption. They also have a pretty mean look, a slash pattern design with wide crossing centre grooves.

Some of their most popular tires of the moment are the Bridgestone Spitfire S-11. Its a tire for a sporty ride with a refined belt technology that keeps the tire round and cool at top speeds. For touring theres the G701 touring range that are specifically designed for American style sporting bikes. If youre serious about taking your bike off road theres the Enduro range, with well chosen names such as Gritty ED11 and Gritty ED78. The Motocross tires are superb for sandy and soft terrain. There are also Motocross tires for intermediate to hard terrain and ones that are developed for very hard and tough surfaces.

The techno brains at Bridgestone dont like standing still. Itll be interesting to see what innovations they come up with in the coming years. - 30329
