Locating Cheap Motorcycles

By Thomas Crown

Just as it is difficult to pinpoint the exact origins of the motorcycle more than 100 years ago, it is hard to narrow down the exact reasons why so many people are drawn to the machines. Call it the thrill of the open road or the allure of recaptured youthful freedom - the fact is that millions of people enjoy a lifestyle that includes the motorcycle as a key ingredient. If you are considering the purchase of a motorcycle, but have had difficulty finding cheap motorcycles from which to choose, here are some tips that may help you.

There are a number of places where you can locate cheap motorcycles, and a variety of methods you can use in your search. Because of the interconnected world in which we live, your options for buying a motorcycle are no longer limited by geography. In fact, the Internet's global reach now enables you to buy your dream motorcycle from almost anywhere on earth.

As previously mentioned there are plenty of places that will provide you an opportunity to locate a cheap motorcycle. Along with your newspaper there are several trade magazines that have tons of great deals on reduced price motorcycles.

Most people start their search for a cheap motorcycle in a very likely place, their local biker shop. This gives you a chance to look at the bike, straddle it, and ask questions. If you are a first time motorcycle rider it is definitely recommended that you consider this as an option as information you can gain from the professional bikers in the shape is invaluable in making you purchase decision and can help you find the best bike at the cheapest price for you.

Just like you do with any other vehicle you need to exercise caution when you are buying a used motorcycle, granted it is a good indication if the bike has low mileage that tends to mean that the bike is in good condition. The only advice I can offer here is simply buyer beware and make sure you know what you are getting yourself into.

Other areas you should inspect for signs of poor condition include the frame, the engine, and the oil cap. While anyone attempting to sell a bike that has been in an accident will no doubt clean it up and try to make it as shiny as new (in hopes that no one would notice), there are usually signs of damage that cannot be completely erased. Check the handlebar grips, as they are the first part of the bike to hit the ground when it falls.

You should also check the chain on the motorcycle for obvious signs of wear and tear. If the bike is an older model, you also want to be careful to compare the mileage shown to see if it is consistent with the amount of wear and tear on the bike. Some of the older model motorcycles had mileage indicators that were easy to manipulate!

Now that you have done a complete once over it is time for you to seal the deal and make sure that you are buying the motorcycle that you truly want and are not just taking the first cheap thing that you see.

When it comes down to it owning a used motorcycle may be the end point of the journey but finding the one thats best for you is the beginning of a long fun road you will go down with your bike. The time you spend finding the perfect bike can be as much fun as the time you spend riding it. Enjoy the journey to ownership, and definitely enjoy the journeys ahead in ownership. - 30329
