Tommy's Motorcycle Woes

By James Pynn

Tommy, my brother-in-law, managed to get into his first car accident recently. He's basically a good kid. He's a typical teen who enjoys rock and roll, pranks, texting, and driving too fast. Like most kids his age, he thinks he's the center of the world and he thinks indestructible.

He was cruising down Olympic Boulevard, when he glanced at his phone to see who had just texted him. He claims he just glanced at his phone, then looked up to see a motorcycle about to cut into his lane. He says he tried to honk, but the they collided before he could do anything.

Unfortunately, instead of taking a spill, the motorcyclist was sent flying. The police report says he was thrown about 40 yards or so. Tommy managed to control himself long enough to call for an ambulance. He rushed to the rider and tried to keep him company until the paramedics arrived. Even as he was helping the rider stay conscious, he knew there was a monster of a legal battle coming his way.

My father-in-law was alarmed how frantic Tommy was after the accident. He had trouble sleeping and lost a thick layer of cockiness. Instead of contacting a regular accident attorney, he decided to contact a motorcycle accident lawyer. This was a brilliant move, as the attorney knew what to look for regarding motorcycle accidents. Sure enough, the impending lawsuit was thrown out as the police confirmed the accident was caused by motorcyclist.

Not only did this attorney get the case tossed before it saw the light of day, he also helped Tommy get some help. His personality had changed and he was more and more morose. Acting on the attorney's advice, my father-in-law got Tommy into some group therapy sessions. It seemed to help. After a few months, he even managed to swagger about the house. - 30329
